PETER HELLYER - INTERNATIONAL HISTORIAN. Should not down play suffering of the WW2 Occupation

Peter Hellyer and Channel Islands WW2 Remembrance Campaign the perfect fit together from June 2018. Peter passed away in June 2023.

Campaign will have Peter Hellyer part of our DNA going forward.

Channel Islands WW2 Remembrance Campaign will take his legacy forward.


Back in June 2018 Channel Islands WW2 Remembrance Campaign had only just launched with a report on Channel ITV News main news, and later in the month Peter Hellyer contacted the campaign, and began to offer his support.

Peter pointed out that he had Occupation history in his family Great Uncle and Aunt. Peter joined the campaign.

Peter believed that Occupation remembrance should be for everyone and in Universal Memorial for the Occupation population and importantly Slave Labour .

Started a long period of communication and advice until his death in June 2023.

Peter helped shape the Channel Islands WW2 Remembrance Campaign and left a lasting legacy to the campaign and about Channel Islands WW2 Occupation Remembrance.


Peter- said Alderney it's a horrible story and one definitely needs more attention . And then ships carrying slave labourers to Fort Regent, and on to the St Malo incident, all fascinating ,interesting and worth Remembrance properly.


Peter's last communication to us said.

There will be a lot around to discover.
Some serious historical work to do. But that's all good.


Peter being our biggest supporter and donor. Peter being absolutely brilliant.


We will forever be grateful to Peter Hellyer. Absolutely .
